Mr. Peter Obi, presidential candidate of Labour Party, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, and Barr. Julius Abure, LP National Chairman have solicited support of Imo people for Sen. Athan Achonu in the forthcoming November 11th governorship election in Imo State.
The trio who stated this at the official campaign flag off and unveiling of Achonu's manifesto held in Owerri,yesterday insisted that against all insinuations, Achonu is the person recognized by LP as its candidate for Imo guber poll.
Also Obi reiterated his commitment and that of the Labour Party to change the political narrative of the country if given the opportunity to serve.
He said, "I have said privately and publicly that I will change Nigeria if given the opportunity. We in Labour Party know what it takes to change Nigeria. You can hold us by our words. I think Nigeria need leaders who will do what they say or promised.
"As for me and all of us in Labour Party, Sen. Athan Achonu is our candidate. The process that produced him as our candidate is free, fair, and recognised by our party."
Otti and Abure said they were witnesses to the congress that produced Achonu as the party's flag bearer, and also described the party's exercise as free, fair and credible.
"I am a witness to Sen. Athan Achonu's emergence being that I was at the congress that produced him as our party's candidate for Imo governorship election. So I can tell you that the full weight of the party is behind him." Otti added.

In his speech, Achonu said he would prioritize efforts that address issues of insecurity, rural development, youth unemployment, as well as guarantee financial autonomy for council areas in the state if elected.
He said the coming Novermber 11th guber poll in state would provide the Imo people the opportunity, "to reverse the current trajectory of inept and ineffective governance that have practically destroyed the hopes and aspirations of our people.
He said, "My commitment to the common good has never been in doubt and it is my utmost belief that given the opportunity and privilege to serve you as Governor, I would be completely dedicated to the development of our dear State by creating sustainable pathways and the enabling environment for the return of normalcy to the security situation in Imo State, thus paving the way for increased investment in lgbo land."
