Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma has said that he is negotiating with European Union and Canadian companies to employ 15, 000 youths of the state, who are graduates of his government technology training initiative, Skill-Up Imo Project.
Uzodimma said that 4,000 of them would by December, 2023 be working in several companies in Europe, having facilitated their employments therein.
The Imo governor stated this while addressing thousands of the Cohort 2 Skill-Up Imo Project graduates who paid him a solidarity visit at government House, Owerri on Tuesday.
He also assured them that his Government will pay all the expenses including the air-ticket, "to ensure that reasonable percentage of Imo youths say bye-bye to poverty."
He reiterated that his mission is to ensure that Imo youths become entrepreneurs, self-employed, bread winners of their families which according to him would guarantee prosperity in the state.
Uzodimma, who enjoined the Skill-Up Imo graduates to be bold, courageous and proud to say they are from Imo State, said, "if Imo youths are strong, properly engaged, empowered and independently earning a living, it means Imo State is strong and prosperous."
Also, while receiving the award of “TECH GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR AWARD”, presented to him by the tech graduates, Uzodimma thanked them for the honour and commended them for the enterprising spirit and commitment to be entrepreneurs within the digital technological world.
Earlier, presenting the prestigious award on behalf the Skill-Up graduates, the state Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Dr. Chimezie Amadi said, "under the leadership of Governor Uzodimma, Imo State has witnessed a surge in Tech-related Initiatives and Investments."
He stated the Imo governor through the tech training initiative has actively promoted Tech-Driven Solutions to critical issues such as healthcare, education and infrastructure.
The Society Mirror gathered that Imo State Government through the Skill-Up Imo Project targets at training 300, 000 youths of the state on digital skills such as digital marketing, Web and App Development, LAN Networking, Content Creation, Basic Data Analysis, Graphics Design, Programming, Cyber September, and Virtual Assistance among others.
