The National President of Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria, PPSN, Prof. Sammy Sam-Wobo has reiterated his commitment to continually offer effective leadership to the Society as well as guarantee quality members' welfare.
Prof. Sam-Wobo who stated this at the 47th Annual Conference and commemoration of PPSN 50th anniversary held in Owerri, last Friday, said, although PPSN has had some challenges occasioned by paucity of funds, it however has recorded tremendous success since he assumed office, 730 days ago.
The Professor of Parasitology and Public Health, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, described the PPSN as esteemed gathering of seasoned scientists and technocrats who have contributed immensely towards the control and elimination of diseases in Nigeria and Africa.
He said, "today marks exactly 730 days since we took over the mantle of leadership of this great society. Indeed, it has been a rewarding experience.
"I must hastily confess that it is an uncommon privilege on my part to lead a cream of notable parasitologists and health professionals of inestimable value, especially in an era when scientific variables are unpredictable.

He continued, "Distinguished conferees, PPSN is a prodigious society with a brilliant future. The society epitomizes quality research, mentorship and accountability, and it is on the strength of these that we presented our first year-in- office's scorecard at the 46th annual conference held at Abraka, Delta State.
"You will agree with me that between then and now, the society, while consolidating on her earlier feats, has made more momentous achievements that are practically impossible to obliterate from the annals of history."
He further said, "my beloved PPSN members, it is worthy to note that PPSN prides herself as the flagship of scientific innovation for prevention and control of parasitic diseases in Nigeria and this is not in doubt.
"It is for this reason that the society is constantly engaged in organization of workshops, seminars and conferences where results from ground breaking researches are shared and globalized."
"And today, we are here for the 47th Annual Conference and commemoration of 50 years of the existence of our dear society.
"This is a giant stride that cannot be ignored, considering the impact of the society on individual and community health globally, including mentorship of young scientists." he added.
