National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in Imo State has intercepted and seized 168 bags of Cannabis weighing 1854kg stocked in an abandoned vehicle parked along Owerri - Onitsha Expressway on Sunday.
Society Mirror gathered that the seizure was the biggest to be recorded by the Imo command since the inception of its operation in the state.
A reliable source who disclosed the news to our reporter stated that both the Driver and Conductor of the vehicle conveying the psychoactive substance were not seen after the officers of the command had mounted surveillance for them for over five hours, before toying the vehicle to the command's headquarters.
He said the command has commenced discreet investigation in order to apprehend the owners of the Illicit substance.
"I told you about this so that you and the world will know that Imo NDLEA is working and is also committed to riding the state of Drug related offences and crimes." the source said.
Also, a leaked release signed by the Imo NDLEA boss, Ali Wali and possibly sent to the Command's headquarters in Abuja, notifying them of the development reads, "Today 15th October 2023 at about 1130hrs, operatives of NDLEA Imo State Command driving on a motorised Patrol interdiction along Owerri - Onitsha Expressway stumbled on a stationary Mercedes Benz container Truck with Reg No ABN 418 YN parked in a completely bushy and isolated area.
"On an unobtrusive observation, the vehicle was perceived to emit odour of Cannabis.
"After a five hour wait to no avail of the Driver, Conductor or any other occupant that may come close to the vehicle and in addition to the seeming detoriating security concerns, the vehicle was toyed to the office."

He continued, "a search was conducted and 168 bags of Cannabis weighing 1, 854kg were found cleverly hidden in a false compactment of the truck.
"Although both the vehicle and the Exhibit could be said to be abandoned, a detailed investigation into the case has commenced in earnest."
