Ahead of Saturday's governorship election in Imo State, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC in the state, Prof. Sylvia Agu has urged the candidates, political party agents, electorate, among other stakeholders to conduct themselves in a manner that would promote and guarantee peace and transparency during the poll.
She appealed to them to continually support and collaborate with the Commission in its commitment to conduct a free, fair, transparent, safe, credible and inclusive governorship election in the state.
Prof. Agu made the appeal at the special stakeholders meeting with the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, represented by the National Commissioner in charge of South Eastern states, Hon. Kenneth Ukeagu, held in Owerri on Tuesday.

She stated that the meeting was organized to deliberate and enlighten the election stakeholders of the readiness of the Commission to conduct an acceptable and inclusive governorship election come November 11th in the state.
She also assured the stakeholders that the Commission would conduct the elections within the timeline stipulated by the Electoral Act and election guidelines in a professional, credible and transparent manner.
In her words, "I implore all the 18 Imo State governorship candidates, their political parties and supporters to prioritise peace in the course of this election as this will not only enhance peace and security in the State but also in Nigeria at large.
"It is important for us to work together with trust, tolerance, respect, and understanding as these values will be key to a peaceful and democratic conduct of elections come November 11, 2023."
