Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo State Council has disassociated itself from the activities of a Human Rights Activist, Mr. Chinonso Uba, popularly known as Nonso Nkwa.
Imo NUJ, in a release signed by the council's Chairman and Secretary, Comr. Ifeanyi Nwanguma and Comr. Treasure Ihechi-Nwamah, said Nonso Nkwa is not its member and urged the general public not to link his activities to the union.
The union further warned that anyone who act on disguise of being a member of the union in the state would be prosecuted according to law, adding that "Nonso Nkwa should be held responsible for his actions and inactions."
The release partly reads, "It has come to attention of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo State Council of the activities of some persons who parade themselves as journalists and by extension, Imo NUJ members.
"We have noticed that the activities of these impostors are to say the least, inciting and in no small measure, have directly and indirectly aided the promotion of insecurity in our state, Imo.
"Among these said persons is one Mr. Chinonso Uba, also known as Nonso Nkwa, who we have on our record is not a journalist by training; hence not a member of Imo NUJ.

"Therefore, we want to use this medium to once again, disassociate the leadership and the entire members of Imo NUJ from the activities of the said Nonso Nkwa.
"We also wish to state that Nonso Nkwa should be held responsible for his actions and inactions; and such should not be linked to Imo NUJ or journalists in the state furthermore."
It further said, "The recent attack on NOUN and JAMB office at Ehime Mbano LGA is an instance and for such to linked to somebody masquerading himself as journalist cum a member of Imo NUJ is most unfortunate and unacceptable to us.

"Imo NUJ condenmed in its entirety the act of inciting youths against the Imo Government, security agencies in the state and Imo citizens at large.
"We, therefore warned that any act from person or persons which undermines the integrity or put the good image of Imo NUJ to disrepute or done on the disguise of being a registered journalist or bonifide member of Imo NUJ will henceforth be legally prosecuted.
"This notice is for the benefit of the General public and for whom it may concern."
Nonso Nkwa is currently the President, Protect the Weak Foundation, a civil society organization, based in Imo State
