The Nigerian Inspector General Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has charged the newly recruited constables for Imo and Abia States to discharge their duty professionally, lawfully as well as selflessly improve security in their respective communities by safeguarding lives and properties of citizens particularly the vulnerable.
The IGP gave the charge when he addressed the new constables during their Passing Out Parade, POP, Ceremony held at the Police Training College, Nekede, in Owerri West Council of Imo State on Thursday.
He reminded the new constables of the need to always abide by the police ethics, stressing that their training and graduation marked a significant milestone for the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Egbetokun, who was represented at the ceremony by the AIG Suleiman Amudu Yusuf, disclosed that the new recruitment clearly demonstrated the FG firm commitment towards strengthening the NPF by addressing the long - standing man - power deficit.
He added that the President approved the annual recruitment of 30,000 Police Constables over the next two years would strengthen internal security, enhance police performance, promote optimal police service delivery nationwide as well as urgment remote community policing.

The IGP said, "As new police constables you should uphold professionalism, integrity, adhere strictly to the rule of law and established procedures, for your role demands empathy, compassion towards the civilian population particularly the vulnerable. And remember that the Uniform you wear and the office you hold are symbol of trust and responsibility...you are never expected for intimidation and harassment or injustice, avoid all forms of lawlessness, human rights abuse and unprofessional conduct, instead, utilize your authority to protect citizens, enforce laws and apprehend criminals".
Also, the Chairman, Police Service Commission, DIG Hashima Argungu (rtd), who was represented by the Deputy Director, Police Discipline Department, George Muruako, warned the new recruits against indulging in corrupt practices.
Admonishing them to do their work in a dignifying manner, Muruako said, "the Commission expects that you conduct yourself in a manner deserving of a police officer".

Commending Federal Government, IGP, AIG and other relevant bodies for ensuring the security of lives and properties of residents, Commandant of Police Training College Nekede, Owerri, ACP Rilwanu Shuaibu, assured that the new constables, who underwent rigorous trainings and orientation would be properly deployed to guarantee the security of the law - abiding Imo and Abia people.
Praising the new recruits for enduring especially during the training and orientation periods, the Governor of Imo State, who was represented by the SA on Homeland Security, Hon. Modestus Osakwe, promised that the administration will continue to partner with the police to sustain security in Imo State.
The Governor harped that the new recruits will help strengthen security in the state. "We value and acknowledge the effort of police in securing the state. We enjoy harmonious relationship with the police hence the peace and normalcy herein and we are going to intensify solid commitment with security agencies to improve effective security and calmness".
