Community policing, recipe to ending local crimes, says Imo CP

Imo State Police Commissioner CP Aboki Danjuma has called for sustained community support and collaboration to strengthen security in the state.

He stated that community policing remains the most proactive measure of combating crimes often committed within the rural communities.

CP Aboki stated this when he visited and and interacted with the traditional rulers and leaders of Umuhu and Ihitte-Okwe Autonomous Communities in Ngor Okpala Council Areas of the state on Thursday.

The Imo Police boss reiterated the commitment of his men, in partnership with other sister security agencies, vigilante operatives and hunters associations in the state to achieve crime Imo.

He also assured the community leaders of the Command’s and state government readiness to offer them the necessary support that would guarantee adequate security and protection of lives and property.

He said, "We are on this visit to seek your continued support and collaboration in combating crimes in the State. We are appreciative of your immense assistance but we will continue to ask for more. The police or the security agencies cannot do it alone. We need your support and collaboration to succeed.

"I am an advocate of community policing because I strongly believe that it would help greatly in addressing most of the security problems you are suffering today in your areas."


Also, addressing the vigilante operatives and hunters with him during the visits, the Commissioner said, "we thank God we have an ever supportive governor, His Excellency Sen. Hope Uzodimma who is also passionate about the security and protection of lives and property of Imo people. I can assure you that he has your best interest at heart.

"Also, we, the security agencies in the state will always be ready to support you in areas that would enhance your service delivery. Honestly, we appreciate your support and contributions so far."

In their separate responses, HRH Eze Basil Anyanwu of Umuhu community and HRH Eze Barnabas Obirieze of Ihitte-Owerri Community applauded the CP for his leadership ingenuity and achievements in area of crime fighting.

And while pledging their continued cooperation and support to the security efforts in the state, they appealed for logistics support to encourage them, especially the vigilante operatives to achieve the desired success.
