Police Officers Wife Association (POWA) Imo State Chapter has distributed menstrual kits to over 200 female students and teenage girls drawn from Police Secondary School, Nwangele, Police Children School, Owerri, children of police officers residing in the barracks, and other communities across Imo State.
This was as the association, in commemoration of the 2025 International Women’s Day, organized a one-day menstrual hygiene awareness campaign for 200 girls aged 13 to 20, held at the Imo Police Command’s Headquarters, Owerri, weekend.
Speaking, Imo POWA Chairperson Mrs. Jemimah Aboki, represented by Mrs. Peace Asogwa, described the initiative as a crucial step in empowering girls.

She emphasized that the campaign aligns with the vision of POWA President, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, of equipping participants with essential knowledge and resources to manage menstrual cycle with dignity.
Mrs. Aboki also appreciated all contributors to the programme and urged the participants to make use of all the knowledge gained for thier health and general well-being.
Also, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, represented by ACP Esther, Assistant Commissioner of Police in-charge of finance, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to both public safety and youth empowerment.
The CP, who stressed the importance of investing in children’s health and girl child education, expressed gratitude to POWA and its partners, noting that empowering young girls contributes to a brighter national future.
The program featured series of health lectures delivered by medical experts and other resource persons on menstrual hygiene as well as practical demonstrations on the proper use of menstrual kits.
The event brought together POWA members and key NGO partners, including the Ike Odoeme Foundation, Samankwe Foundation, Prophet Dom Daniel Anyanwu, General Overseer, Miraculous Deliverance Gospel Mission, Owerri and EXCOHSEAI.
