Success often attracts goodwill, but genuine loyalty and respect are earned through integrity, exemplary leadership, and humane service. In a society where corruption has become the norm, it is commendable to celebrate individuals who uphold values of sincerity, humility, and dedication, qualities exemplified by Shaba Adamu Gboyako, a Chief Supritendent of Police (CSP).
Public perception of the Nigeria Police is often tainted, yet many officers remain professional, people-oriented, and committed to the rule of law. A good police officer is marked by diligence, fairness, respect for human rights, and an unwavering commitment to public safety. Strong communication, critical thinking, integrity, humility, and courage are among the qualities that define outstanding officers.
CSP Shaba Gboyako, Chief Principal Security Officer to the Imo State Governor, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma, epitomizes these values. Known for his humility, accessibility, dedication, and selflessness, he stands out as one of the finest officers in Imo State. His diligence echoes the Biblical principle in Proverbs 22:29: “Do you see a man diligent in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men.”
It was no surprise, therefore, when the Inspector General, Kayode Egbetokun, selected CSP Shaba for national recognition during the second edition of the National Police Award and Commendation Ceremony in Abuja. He received the IGP’s Special Achievement Award. An honour well-deserved, given his record of service and humanitarianism.
IGP Egbetokun, in his address, emphasized that the awards aim to foster excellence by rewarding officers who display outstanding dedication and professionalism. “The officers honoured did not apply for recognition,” he said. “They earned it through uncommon courage, ethical conduct, and leadership.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, re-echoed these sentiments. He commended the Nigeria Police Force for institutionalizing this noble initiative and congratulated the recipients for their service. “Let your example inspire others in the Force to emulate your discipline, professionalism, and integrity,” he urged.
Even before this national recognition, CSP Shaba had consistently received accolades from Civil Society Organizations, religious and traditional institutions, youth and student unions, and community leaders. His consistent honouring is a testament to his character and impact.
CSP Shaba is more than just a diligent officer. He is a role model, a symbol of professionalism, and a beacon of hope within the police force. His name is already etched in the annals of Imo State's public service history.
While we celebrate this recent award, it is equally important to encourage and motivate such officers further. I join other well-meaning Nigerians in calling on the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police leadership to expedite his well-earned promotion to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). In fact, all recipients of this national honour, past and present, deserve accelerated recognition to reinforce a culture of merit, dedication, and patriotism.
Congratulations once again to CSP Shaba. May he continue to fly the flag high. And as the saying goes, the reward for hard work is more work. With God’s grace, he will overcome and achieve even greater heights - Insha Allah.
