Operatives of Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command led by ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa have recovered decomposed corpse suspected to be that of one Barr. Jeffery Ucheagwu.
The victim who hails from IIhembosi in Ekwusigo council area of Anambra State was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen on 14th October, 2025 close to his residence in Owerri.
Speaking to newsmen at the scene of the crime in a forested area at Okuku in Owerri-West Local Government Area on Thursday, the Command's spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye said the discovery of the kidnappers' hideout and recovery of the corpse followed painstaking investigative effort of the Command’s operatives.

Okoye said the samples of the decomposed corpse have been obtained by the Command’s Forensic Unit and would be sent for DNA analysis to determine whether they correspond with that of abducted lawyer.
He further said that the dislodged hideouts of the kidnappers including the one situated Ndegwu community, also in Owerri-West LGA have been placed under 24-hour close surveillance, "to prevent the criminals from regrouping and to aid further intelligence gathering on their activities."
Okoye however assured that the Command has intensified efforts to apprehend members of the gang responsible for the abduction of the barrister and ensure his possible rescue if still alive.

He noted said, "the intelligence-driven operation, coordinated by ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, led to the recovery of a decomposed corpse from one of the hideouts located in an abandoned livestock farm deep within the Okuku–Agwa forest.
"The scene was cordoned off, and the body was carefully evacuated by operatives and taken to the morgue for further forensic examination
