The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has commended the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Prof. Sylvia Agu for her resilence and diligence to duty.
The Commission's Commissioner for Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Abuja, Mallam Muhammed Kudu Haruna gave the commendation while briefing newsmen in Owerri, on Wednesday.
He said the Commission has never found Prof. Agu wanting in her assigned responsibilities since she assumed office in Imo State.
The electoral umpire chief opined that the Imo REC, "for her determined efforts to deliver free, fair and credible elections in state deserves immense encouragement and support from all and sundry."
He said, "when we reviewed the last general election which we normally do after each election, we went through state by state and we didn't have any problem in Imo State.
"I am aware that there were peculiar problems in each state of the country but that did not affect the overall acceptability of the election.
"So in overall, one can convincingly say that the REC in Imo State performed well and deserves commendation and support from the people."
Asked to tell his expectations from the Imo REC ahead of the November 11th governorship election in the state, the INEC Commissioner said, "for INEC, once you, as a REC, respect and keep faith with the procedures of the Commission, you don't have problems.
"We always tell everyone involve including the Chairman, Commissioners, RECs and Directors to focus on INEC procedures or to make sure you are always guided by INEC procedures.
"You are also reminded that you don't have interest in the outcome of the elections. Your interest is only to safeguard the procedures of INEC.
"Once you do that, whatever the outcome is, is not your making. So whoever wins or loses should accept it in good faith."

And to the Commission's staff participating in elections, Haruna who is also a member, Information and Voter Education Committee, IVEC advised, "avoid being compromise by any actor wether politicians, security agents or whosoever."
"Just do your own beat and if others don't want to do their own beat, it will be clear that you played your role well." he added.
