Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Barde has charged security personnel enlisted to participate in the forthcoming November 11th governorship election in the state to be professional and impartial in the discharge of their duties.
Imo CP warned that any form of compromise and unethical behaviour from any of them engaged in the electoral exercise will not be condoned.
CP Barde gave the charge during the flag-off of a two-day training workshop organized for Election Security Officers, held at Command's headquarters, Owerri on Friday.
He assured the law-abiding residents of the State of their maximum safety and security during and after the upcoming gubernatorial election.
The Imo police boss who also urged Imolites to turn out en masse and vote for the candidate of their choice without any fear of intimidation or molestation, admonished political parties and their candidates to adopt the spirit of sportsmanship as well as respect the law guiding election.
Also, in a release signed by the Command's spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, the CP said the training was aimed at equipping the officers, "with the requisite knowledge and Standards Operational Procedure (SOP) needed for effective delivery of a democratic human-right compliant police service before, during and after the election."
"Accordingly, the Commissioner of Police admonished the dedicated officers to adhere strictly to the tenets of the Electoral Act as amended and charged them to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and neutrality while discharging their lawful duties during and after the upcoming off-season election.
"The CP assured Imolites of the Command’s unalloyed commitment to collaborating with other sister security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the relevant stakeholders in the state, in conducting a peaceful, credible transparent and acceptable election."

"To this end, CP Barde beckons on Politicians of the various Political Parties in the State to adopt the spirit of sportsmanship and play the rules by avoiding the use of hate speech, abusive language, or inciting statement that is likely to stir up violence or heat the Polity in the State.
