Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has said that his administration would never relent in its commitment in combating violent crimes and criminality in the State.
The Governor, represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. John Cliff Nwadike stated this at the official launch of School Protection Squad, SPS by the Nigerian Police Force held at Owerri City School, Owerri, last Thursday.
He disclosed that his administration since its inception priotized security and has invested enormous resources and efforts in addressing security concerns cum challenge, which had earlier bedeviled the state.

Uzodimma lauded the police for their partnership with his government to guarantee safer environment for teaching and learning in all schools in the state through the "Safer Schoool Programme", while assuring his unwavering support to the initiative.
He said, "this administration has never relented in its commitment to guarantee adequate security in the state. So far, our indefatigable governor has invested a lot in ensuring that Imo citizens no longer live in fears.
"What we are witnessing today is in line with the same commitment to ensure that all parts of our state is safe and our schools conducive for teaching and learning. No doubt, quality education and adequate security are top priorities to this government."
"And on behalf of my governor, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma, I want to commend the Nigerian Police Force for this initiative in our schools. I also want to assure you of the government's support to this programme." Nwadike added.
Earlier, the Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma said the initiative is that of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, aimed at enhancing the safety of students, teachers, and educational institutions across the federation.
He disclosed that the School Protection Squad (SPS), "is made up of over hundred dedicated, patriotic, and well-trained officers who have been equipped with patrol vehicles, motorcycles, bulletproof vests, smoke gunners, arms, and state-of-the-art alarm triggering device with a control system at the Force Headquarters to tighten-up security in schools."
According to him, "this squad will be deployed across the vulnerable primary, secondary schools, and tertiary institutions in the State to enhance the safety and security of students, teachers, and educational facilities in the State.
CP Danjuma solicited public support to the SPS programme and stressed that, "through collaborative efforts, a secure and conducive learning environment can be achieved for every child in Imo State."
