The Imo State Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma has urged residents of Avu and Obinze communities in Owerri West council of the state to go about their lawful businesses and activities without any fear of harm or molestation.
The Imo Police Commissioner stated this while reacting to a publication, calling for urgent government intervention over nefarious activities of kidnappers and ritual gang who had allegedly invaded the communities.
In a release signed by the Command's spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, Police boss described the publication as misleading, unfounded and handiwork of mischief makers aimed at sabotaging the already achieved security-related achievements in the State.
The release reads, "in view of the recently reported nefarious activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements within the Avu and Obinze axis of the state, the Imo State Police Command wishes to reassure the residents and citizens of the State of her sustained commitment to rid the area and the entire State of all forms of crimes and criminality.
"Recall that a few months ago when a similar public outcry was made over the reported invasion of criminal elements in the said forest between Avu/Obinze communities, the Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma immediately mobilized and led the management and tactical operatives of the Command to comb the entire forest. Therein, some achievements were recorded.
"Ever since then, the Command has sustained intelligence surveillance of the entire axis and constantly detailed plain clothes policemen to patrol the areas to source for actionable intelligence. The Commissioner, in his wisdom, also created immediately, three observational checkpoints along the Port Harcourt road to forestall any criminal activity around the area."

"Also, on Monday, 17th June 2024, the Commissioner of Police and Operatives of the Command repeated vigorous combing of the forest but nothing actionable was found. Hence, the Command views this recent publication as the handiwork of mischief makers who are trying to create unwarranted panic, negativity, and palpable fear in the minds of Imolites to sabotage the already established public confidence and security-related achievements in the State.
"To this end, the Police Commissioner therefore reiterates the Command’s commitment to making sure that all the roads and other areas in the State are safe for Imolites. He equally urges the citizens and residents of the State particularly those living in the Avu and Obinze communities to disregard the publication and go about their normal daily businesses and activities without any fear of harm or molestation.
"He stated that while the command alongside other security agencies are working in synergy to make sure the State is safe for all, well-meaning citizens should assist the Command with relevant information that will help to achieve crime-free Imo by reporting to the nearest Police Station or via 08034773600 or 08098880197."
