The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Oru, Owerri Province, Rt. Rev'd Geoffrey Chukwunenye has called for urgent revamping of the nation's economy to save the citizens from the currently experienced untold hardship and sufferings.
The cleric who made the call in his address at first session of the 6th diocesan synod holding at St. Bartholomew's Church, Nempi, Oru-West council of Imo State, weekend, urged President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to review his government's economic policies and reduced incesant taxations on the citizens.

According to him, "the nation, Nigeria is gradually sliding into a total collapse. The present government seems to have lost every idea on how to stop this downward slide and to revamp the economy. Everything now looks like trial and error, that is try your luck."
"Economies are grown only through production. This is where the government must focus its policies and energy-production. The government should unbundle the monopolies it created for some individuals for the economy to thrive.
"But all the policies that are being churn out from the policy makers seem to be aimed to harm the people the more. They all smear wickedness in the outlook. The government should realize that it is in power for the good and protection of the life and property of the citizens." he said.
Speaking on security, the Bishop said, "peace is gradually returning to our states and communities. While we continue to thank God for His mercy, we cannot but appreciate all those God used and is still using to achieve the relative peace we are all enjoying now.
"We equally thank some of our brothers for seeing reasons of giving up on their anger. No matter how genuine and justified their anger is, I believe it is now time for them to calm down completely. This will enable us to rebuild our land and the economy that is almost in ruins, to avoid hunger and starvation dealing with us mercilessly now."
"There is no meaningful development and rebuilding that can take place in an atmosphere devoid of peace. So let there be peace. Once again, I appreciate and thank you all for agreeing to give peace a chance so that we might live and not all perish." he added.
