Two Hundred families of Police officers in Imo State including wives of slain officers and orphans have benefited from the empowerment programme organized by the President of the Police Officers' Wives Association (POWA) and wife of the 22nd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun.
The event, held at the Command Headquarters in Owerri on Thursday, our reporter gathered was designed to provide support to the wives of serving officers, as well as the families of those who have fallen or been injured in the line of duty.
Also, according to the Command's spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye, the philanthropic gesture was also aimed at boosting the morale and honouring the sacrifice of fallen and injured heroes of the command.
The empowerment items included 19 sewing machines, 10 fridges, 10 pumping machines, 50 bags of rice, 50 cartons of indomie, 50 five-liter gallons of groundnut oil, 40 bags of fertilizer, 25 grinding machines, among others.

Speaking at the event, the POWA President urged the beneficiaries to utilize the resources in ways that would create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their children.
Also, Mrs. Jemima Aboki, wife Imo Police Commissioner, who is also Chairperson of POWA, Imo State chapter, expressed her gratitude to Dr. Egbetokun for her continued commitment to uplifting police families in Imo and across the nation.
She noted that the empowerment initiative, "highlights POWA's ongoing dedication to improving the welfare of police families, both in Imo State and across Nigeria."

More so, the Imo State Police Commissioner, Aboki Danjuma in his good message expressed his sincere appreciation to the POWA president and the entire POWA management for what he described as laudable and life saving initiative.
The CP also used the opportunity to thank the State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, for his continued support to the families of fallen and injured officers of the command.
He also acknowledged and applauded the significant efforts of the IGP in enhancing the welfare of police families across the Nation as well as his unwavering commitment to upholding rule of law and safety of Nigerians.

Another highlight of the event was the presentation of awards of appreciation to some Imo citizens by the POWA president for their support to the association and the Imo Police Command.
Meanwhile, on her arrival to the state, the POWA President paid courtesy visits to the Imo Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Lady Dr. Chinyere Ekomaru, and the Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers and Community Policing, the Eze Imo; who warmly welcomed her and her team to the state.
They equally lauded POWA president for her impactful leadership and prayed God to continue to afford her and the entire POWA management team the grace, wisdom and strength to continue the good work for the general good of the police officers, their families and the society at large.
