... tasks Imo students on school safety for academic excellence

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has been commended for initiating the Schools Protection programme aimed at securing schools across the nation against safety threats and security concerns.
CSP Shaba Adamu Gboyako, Chief Principal Security Officer to Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State gave the commendation at the opening ceremony of the two-day Stakeholders Forum on School Security and the Training of the Schools Protection Squad, SPS, held in Owerri, last week.
Gboyako, represented by ACP Linus Nwaiwu of the IGP XSquad Unit of Imo State Police Command described IGP Egbetokun as excellent police boss who is passionately driven to combat crime and maintain stability and peace for national development and progress.
He added that the remarkable achievements recorded across the nation in the fight against terrorism, insurgency and other violent crimes were courtesy of the visionary leadership and impeccable commitment of the Police Inspector General.
Uzodinma’s security chief solicited collaborative support from stakeholders and citizens towards achieving the vision of the IGP for a safe and secured Nigeria, stressing that achieving a crime free society remains a collective task.
Also, Gboyako who delivered a paper at the event on, "The Roles of Students in Building Secured School Environment for Academic Excellence", urged the students not to leave the task of securing the school environment on the hand of the management and teachers alone.
He advised Imo students to contribute and support effort that would guarantee conducive environment for teaching, learning and academic excellence by adhering to school's rules and regulations; and by reporting suspicious activities within and around their schools to appropriate authorities.

He said, "a secure school environment is not just the responsibility of teachers and administrators; students have a vital part to play. When we follow school rules, show respect for others, and support a culture of kindness, we lay the foundation for a peaceful and productive learning space.
"As students, we can help by reporting bullying, suspicious activities, or any threats that could harm others. Participating in safety drills, joining student councils, or simply looking out for one another builds a sense of community and shared responsibility."
"Furthermore, let us not forget the power of teamwork, cleanliness, and order. A clean and organized environment is a safe one-and when we feel safe, we can focus better and achieve academic excellence.
"Let's all commit to being responsible, respectful, and safety-conscious students. Together, we can build a school that is not only secure but also a place where we all grow." he added.
