Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo State council has presented a partnership award to Citizens Advocates for Peace is Possible in Nigeria, CAPIPIN.
Presenting the award to Chibuike Akujuobi, National President of the group in Abuja, last Saturday, Imo NUJ Chairman, Comr. Ifeanyi Nwanguma said the honour was in recognition of CAPIPIN's immense humanitarian services and contributions to sustenance of peace and unity in Nigeria as well as to the growth and development of journalism profession particularly in Imo State.
Comr. Nwanguma stressed that the award also reflected the commitment of the Imo journalists in promoting and supporting organisations that prioritize general well-being of the citizens and advocates for a better society.
He announced that Imo NUJ aside donating an office space to the group at its Owerri secretariat, the council would also continually partner with the group in areas that would enhance the practice and welfare of journalists as well as encourage effective operations of the group in the state.
"This award is in recognition of your collaborative role and support towards growth and development of journalism in Imo State. With this award, Imo NUJ is committed to working or partnering with CAPIPIN to deepen calls for peace, unity and good governance in the country." Nwanguma said.
Adding his voice, the NUJ South East zonal executive Secretary, Comr. Eze Adiku applauded the peace advocate group for its achievements and pledged to extend the partnership to other councils in the zone.

Responding, Akujuobi, a renowned entrepreneur, philanthropist, social crusader and youth ambassador while appreciating Imo NUJ for the recognition, called on other key stakeholders to join in championing peace, unity and stability in the country for the collective interest of the people.
He said, "as much as Nigerians yearn for quality leadership and good governance, achievement and sustenance of peace and unity are crucial for overall development and well-being of the citizens and the nation at large."
Akujuobi also used the opportunity to inform the Imo NUJ delegates in the visit, of the line-up programmes of the group in Imo State including the one-day training of Police officers on modern peace and conflict resolution techniques as well as peace walk that would involve Imo youths and police officers. He disclosed that both events are coming up on 8th and 9th July, 2025 in Owerri, the capital.
Also at the event included the Imo NUJ Secretary, Mrs. Treasure Ihechi-Nwamah and the Acting Chairman, Correspondents' Chapel in the state, Comr. Collins Osuji, Chief Executive Director, Vegas Homes Ltd, Mr. Chukwuemeka Okoye, among others.
