Imo State government and critical stakeholders especially those in environment sector have been urged to continually support efforts towards advancing inclusive climate governance and strengthening resilience in the state.
The call was made by Victoria Ibezim-Ohaeri, Executive Director, Spaces for Change, S4C, represented by Barr. Chetachi Louis-Udeh, S4C senior legal officer at the close-out session of the Imo State Technical Committee on Climate Change, held in Owerri, on Thursday.
Ibezim-Ohaeri reiterated that climate resilience, which involves reducing emissions, adapting to unavoidable changes, and ensuring a more equitable society, is critical for a conducive and healthy environment for human habitation cum existence.
She advised Imo citizens and residents to embrace lifestyles that promote healthy environment as well as help in addressing the impacts of climate change which according to her result in recurrent flooding, gully erosion, rising temperature, erratic rainfall and extreme weather patterns.

She also used the opportunity to appreciate the state governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, Commissioner of the state Ministry of Environment and Sanitation, Barr. Major Ejikeme Emenike and other members of the Technical Committee for their contributions in the drafting process of the Imo State Climate Change Policy.
"While today marks the formal conclusion of this particular assignment, we are confident that the seeds sown will continue to bear fruit. Spaces for Change remains committed to standing with Imo State as it moves from planning to implementation and from commitments to results. Thank you all for your outstanding service." Ibezim-Ohaeri said.
Also, the Committee Chairman on Environment at the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie and the Permanent Secretary, Imo State Ministry of Environment and Sanitation, Mr. Chukwuma Iheanacho applauded Spaces for Change for its initiative and steadfast commitment to the formulation of the policy.
The Committee, comprising environmental experts, academia, traditional rulers, leaders of various economic sectors, legal and media professionals, inaugurated and facilitated by S4C in partnership with Institute of Development Studies and the state Ministry of Environment and Sanitation, recently handed-over to the state government the drafted policy to guide climate change activities in the state.
