In what could be best be described as pre Easter celebrations crackdown, operatives of the Imo State Police Command on Wednesday has raided one of the hideouts of members of the proscribed Eastern Security Network, ESN, security outfit of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The operatives during the operation arrested three suspects; namely Onyekaba Ikenna Innocent (21), Ugwu Ikenna (31), and Ofor Kasarachi (37) and recovered from the scene one AK-47 riffle, two pump-action guns, eighteen live cartridges, mobile devices, laptops, and ₦10.3 million in cash.
The Command Spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye in a statement issued to newsmen said, "Investigations reveals the money (N10.3M) was contributed by IPOB members to finance terrorism."
He disclosed that the command would charge the suspects to court on conclusion of investigations and urged members of the public to report any suspicious activity, behaviour or movement around their area for immediate action.
Okoye said, "The Imo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has continued to sustain its operational momentum against criminal elements threatening public safety in the state.
"On April 17, 2025, at about 0120hrs, operatives of the Command's Tactical Teams, in synergy with local vigilante groups, acted on credible intelligence and stormed a suspected IPOB/ESN hideout on Cameron Street, Ubahu, in Okigwe LGA.
"On sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire, resulting in a gun battle during which three suspects were arrested, namely: Onyekaba Ikenna Innocent (21), Ugwu Ikenna (31), and Ofor Kasarachi (37), while two others escaped into the surrounding bushes."
"With Easter approaching, the Command assures Imolites of robust security across the state. In collaboration with sister agencies, patrols, surveillance, and checkpoints have been intensified to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration.
"Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via 0803 477 3600.
