Imo State citizens and residents have been urged to actively participate in safeguarding their communities by reporting observed suspicious activities or potential threats.
The Chief Principal Security Officer to Governor Hope Uzodimma, CSP Shaba Adamu Gboyako gave the advice while delivering a lecture titled, "See Something, Say Something: An Effective Tool for Community Policing", at Imo Police and Stakeholders Security Meeting, held at the Command headquarters, Owerri on Thursday.
CSP Gboyako described community policing as a culture where individual community members feel responsible and empowered to report unusual observed activities or behaviours that may pose security threats to the community to law enforcement agencies.
He added that the term, "See Something, Say Something" which is an effective tool for community policing, aside been a proactive measure in creating a secure and safe society also helps to prevent crimes before they occur.
According Governor Uzodinma’s security chief, active application of "See Something, Say Something," culture would among many benefits improve intelligence gathering and sharing; boost trust or confidence; encourage active collaboration as well as contribute effectively to crime prevention cum reduction.
He said, "the term "See Something, Say Something" is a vital component of effective community policing in Nigeria. By providing a culture of vigilance and proactive reporting, communities can play an instrumental role in improving their own security.
"Also addressing the security challenges through this strategic initiative will pave the way for a collaborative and trust-based relationship between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve, finally leading to a safer and more secure Nigeria."

The security expert also applauded the Governor Uzodimma and the security agencies in the state for their commitment and proactive steps in combating crimes in the State.
He stressed that the restoration of peace and stability in the state against all odds remains a laudable achievements of Governor Uzodimma's led administration which the governor and other key actors should be commended for.
CSP Gboyako finally solicited continued support and collaboration from members of the public towards achieving a secure Imo and tasked security officers on professionalism, dedication and effective service delivery.
