Imo State Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma has urged newly recruited police officers from Imo and Abia States to be disciplined, professional and corrupt free.
CP Danjuma gave the advice while addressing 264 of the 2022/2023 batch B police recruits drawn from Abia and Imo, at the Police Training School, PTS, Nekede, Owerri on Monday.
He assured the recruits that they will not regret joining the police force, stressing that police is a noble profession, charged to guarantee public safety and security of the country.
The CP disclosed that the visit to the training school followed the directive of Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun to ensure that adequate welfare and general well-being of the recruits are guaranteed.
The Imo Police boss also advised the recruits not to indulge in activities that will encourage crimes or promote violence in their communities, stressing that, "the IGP has zero-tolerance to corruption, indiscipline and professional misconduct."
He said, "You are in police to serve the country and humanity. Nothing more. If you are found collecting bribe, aiding and abating crime, you will be sanctioned accordingly and even dismissed.
"Also, don't belong to any cult group or secret association. You must be transparent and deligent in your service to the people. Don't be afraid in doing what is right and just as a police officer. You will regret joining the police.
"As you are aware, after here, you will be posted to your respective communities. So I charge you to discharge your duties diligently and corroborate with your communities to achieve enhanced safety and security of the people."
"As Commissioner of Police, I am committed to carrying to the later the IGP mandate of achieving the Nigeria Police Force that professionally competent, service driven, rule of law complaint and people friendly." CP Danjuma added.
The Commandant, PTS, ACP Suleiman Shuaibu appreciated the IGP Egbetokun, CP Danjuma and the state governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, represented at the event by CSP Shaba Gboyako for their continued support to the college.
He assured that the school management would continue to give their best in ensuring that the recruits are adequately trained and empowered to offer best police services in line of their duty.
In his remark, Govemor Uzodinma through his representative, CSP Gboyako reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensuring adequate security in the state and assured the police college and the recruits of his continued support.
Meanwhile, during the visit, the CP, accompanied by some top management team of the Command, also inspected the classrooms, hostels, refectory and other training facilities in the college, which he adjudged to be in perfect conditions for quality training of the recruits.
Highlights of the visit included the presentation of 10 bags of 50kg rice, two gallons of cooking oil and a cow to the college by the CP to assist in the welfare of the recruits.
