A gender based and social development non-governmental organisation, Alliances for Africa, AfA has called for collaborative support to ensure the implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP), and Baby Making Factory Laws in Imo State.
The call was made by the AfA Executive Director, Ms. Iheoma Obibi when she led other management team of the organisation on a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma at the Command's headquarters in Owerri, on Wednesday.
Obibi stressed on the need for urgent establishment of a regulatory agency to drive the implementation of the law in the state, adding that the police, like other stakeholders, should work together towards achieving the need.

According to her, "the establishment of the Agency would among other benefits help to curb menace of domestic violence and other human rights related offences such as sexual harassment, child abuse and human trafficking."
She said, "we are here to appeal to you sir, the CP to lend your voice for the urgent establishment of this Regulatory Agency. This agency will also help to lessen the burden on the police in tackling gender based related offences and others."
Also, Ms. Blessing Duru, AfA Director of Programmes who applauded the police boss for his laudable achievements since arriving the state, urged him to continually support efforts aimed at promoting and achieving fairness, equity and justice for all in the state.
Ms. Duru added that AfA would continue to support cum partner the Imo Police Command in areas that would enhance efficient policing, and or encourage effective service delivery by men and officers of the command.
She also used the opportunity to propose a one-day workshop for senior officers of the command on awareness and effective implementation of the existing VAPP and Baby Making Factory Laws in the state.

Responding, the Imo Police Commissioner appreciated AfA for the visit, stressing that the command under his watch has remained committed to achieving safety and justice for all and sundry in the state.
CP Danjuma who highlighted some of the cases currently being handled by command regarding human rights offences, promised that the command would deepen partnership with AfA in areas that would help consolidate on the already achieved peace and stability in the state.
He attributed the many achievements recorded by the command to the ceaseless support and genuine concern of the state governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, as well as the healthy collaboration of the good people of the state.
